Informal Cranbrook reunion dinner - 11th October 2017

Dear Old Cranbrookian colleagues,

We had an excellent Italian dinner at Big Mama’s in Woollahra last Wednesday as organised by Matt Sawyer: see photos below.  There was antipasto including delicious prosciutto, cheese and tomato bruschetta followed by a choice of four main courses.  I missed out on half the meal due to a late Qantas flight from Hobart after spending four days underground at MONA (don’t ask!).  It was great to catch up.

John North and Les Schmalzbach asked some round table questions about families, careers, hobbies, retirement, etc.  A majority of old boys had sent (or were sending) their son(s) to Cranbrook.  This may have been a skewed sample, however.

Quite a few of our number have turned to the sea, some in very serious ocean going voyages in relatively small vessels (Andrew Howie sailed from England!).  Some were unable to attend because they were sailing in exotic climes (you know who you are!).

There was a sombre toast to Peter van Wensveen who died last December: Rest in Peace, Peter.

Look forward to the next dinner, probably in mid-2018 if people are still keen.  Cheers from gorgeous springtime Bowral, NSW.

Andrew Byrne .. (year trouble-maker: still working 3 days per week at Redfern surgery).
